Concerns About Counterfeit Wines in Hong Kong

Date: 30 Mar 2026

Recently, several customers from Korea and Singapore have raised valid concerns about the risk of counterfeit wines in Hong Kong.

As one of Asia’s leading fine wine trading hubs with zero duty since 2008, Hong Kong attracts both serious collectors and, unfortunately, some questionable bottles. We fully understand these concerns, especially when purchasing high-value Burgundy, Champagne, and cult wines.

At Rare Bottle Blitz, building long-term trust with our Korean and Asian customers is our top priority.

This article aims to address these concerns transparently and explain how we ensure the authenticity of every bottle we offer.

Current Counterfeit wine Situation in Hong Kong (2023–2026)

The issue is best described as persistent concern rather than a widespread crisis.

Hong Kong Customs continues to seize counterfeit luxury goods regularly, and there is good cooperation between auction houses and traders to monitor fakes.

While there has not been any major new scandal specifically involving fine Burgundy or Champagne in 2024–early 2026, older worries from around 2017 (when Hong Kong was sometimes called a potential “dumping ground” for fakes targeting Asian buyers) have not completely disappeared.

Korean customers are particularly vigilant because many purchase expensive wines such as DRC and Leroy through Hong Kong intermediaries or storage facilities.

With growing global awareness of wine fraud cases, including the lingering impact of the Rudy Kurniawan scandal, combined with high prices and a strong desire for reliable provenance, caution is completely understandable.

How We Ensure Every Bottle is Genuine

At Rare Bottle Blitz, we have implemented strict measures to protect our customers:

  • Direct and Trusted Provenance

Most of our wines come directly from domaines, well-documented private cellars in Europe, or long-term trusted suppliers. We strongly prioritize Ex-Domaine releases with clear, verifiable history.

  • Experienced Authentication Team

Our team includes specialists who previously worked with major auction houses in Hong Kong. They perform thorough inspections, checking bottle shape, capsule, label quality, printing details, cork, fill level, and other subtle indicators.

  • Full Transparency

All offered wines are physically held in Hong Kong (unless otherwise stated). We gladly provide photos from multiple angles and welcome customers or their representatives to inspect bottles in person.

  • No Speculative Grey Market

We do not offer bottles with unclear or speculative provenance. If we cannot verify authenticity to our satisfaction, we simply do not list the wine.

Our Commitment to You

Our promise at Rare Bottle Blitz is simple: to help you enjoy authentic, beautiful wines with complete peace of mind — and at the best prices in Hong Kong.

Every bottle we offer goes through careful selection and verification by our experienced team.

We look forward to continuing to share genuine and exceptional bottles with you in the future.

If you ever have any questions or concerns about provenance, please feel free to contact me directly.

Thank you for your trust.
