Imagine uncorking a 1999 Taittinger Comtes de Champagne, its golden bubbles whispering 25 years of history—here’s why it still dazzles!

Story of Rarity and Aging-Taittinger Comtes de Champagne 1999
This flagship vintage, crafted only in exceptional years like 1996, 1998, 1999, 2002, 2004, and 2008, is a rare gem—just 35 vintages since 1952. Made from 100% Chardonnay from Grand Cru vineyards in Côte des Blancs (Avize, Cramant, Chouilly, Mesnil-sur-Oger, Oger), it embodies Taittinger’s finest style. Only 150,000-300,000 bottles are produced per vintage, thanks to the meticulous care of winemakers and collectors who preserve these treasures.
The 1999 vintage, born from a hot, stormy year with the lowest acidity in 50 years, yielded fruity, generous wines. Aged 9 years on lees with 5% in new oak barrels (renewed annually), it offers a bready, toasty nose with honey and citrus, warming to a silky, elegant palate.
Pierre Emmanuel, at a tasting event in 2011, favored drinking it with bottle age, peaking around 15 years. Yet, at 26 years, it defies expectations, though stock is scarce in retail, often surfacing at auctions—unless you tap private cellars!
Market Insight
June 2025 brought hope with the Liv-ex Champagne 50 index’s first rise in a year, hitting 2021 levels after a 34.7% drop since October 2022. This signals renewed investor confidence in icons like Taittinger, Dom Pérignon, and Krug. The 1999 Comtes, a collector’s prize, reflects this trend—its value grows with rarity.
