Domaine Boigey Freres Overview

Domaine Boigey-Frères represents one of the most compelling modern winemaking of Vosne-Romanée. While the Boigey family’s roots in the Côte de Nuits stretch back generations, the domaine as it stands today is a story of strategic rebirth led by brothers Guillaume and Clément Boigey.

  • Historically, the family’s prime vineyard parcels were leased out under long-term métayage (sharecropping) contracts, with fruit frequently sold off to prestigious négociants. The strategic turning point arrived as these historic leases expired, allowing the young brothers to bring their exceptional holdings back under direct family management starting with the 2019 vintage.

  • The domain’s vineyard holdings are extraordinarily focused, concentrated predominantly in Vosne-Romanée, with key parcels extending into Nuits-Saint-Georges. Rather than spreading their footprint thin, the Boigey brothers command a precise mosaic of old vines (vieilles vignes), many planted in the mid-20th century.

  • Their small-scale, highly concentrated parcel proportion allows them to farm with precision, turning into a dynamic, boutique identity.

Vineyard Proportion:

  • Domaine Boigey-Frères commands a total holding of around 3.15 hectares, spread across six key appellations ranging from regional to Grand Cru.

  • Bourgogne Pinot Noir, located directly within the commune of Vosne-Romanée, neighboring plots owned by Domaine Bizot. Wine aging used around 30% new oak for 10–12 months.

Domaine Boigey Freres Terrior

The philosophy at Boigey-Frères bridges respect for historical terroir with an uncompromising, contemporary viticultural ethos.

  • Vineyard Management:

In the vineyards, the brothers prioritize organic farming principles, focusing heavily on soil life and vine balance. Recognizing the shifting climate dynamics of the Côte de Nuits, canopy management preserves natural shade to protect grape skins from sun while maintaining essential diurnal acidity.

  • Winemaking:

In the cellar, Guillaume and Clément favor a minimal-intervention approach centered onunforced extraction.

  • Whole-Cluster Strategy: Depending on the vintage and parcel dynamics, they incorporate a thoughtful percentage of whole-cluster fermentation. Stems are utilized not to dominate the aromatics, but to impart structural lift, fine herbal complexity, and a cool, vertical drive.

  • Extraction over Force: Primarily on remontage (pump-overs) and light infusion to extract silky, fine-grained tannins without pulling harsh, bitter astringency from the skins.

  • Oak Treatment: Aging takes place in French oak barrels, with a conservative proportion of new oak. Barrels act as a structural vessel for micro-oxygenation, allowing the pure limestone signature of their plots to shine through.

Wine Style & Profile:

Modern Vosne Elegance

The wines of Domaine Boigey-Frères represent a modern revolution with expressions showcase purity, aromatic transparency, and structural grace.

On the nose with crushed red berries, dark violet florals, dried tea leaves, and exotic spice, complemented by a distinct, cool mineral core. On the palate, the fruit architecture is ripe, carried by a sleek, linear acidity that prevents any heaviness.

The tannin structure is fine-grained and chalky, reflecting the limestone bedrocks of their Vosne and Nuits-Saint-Georges sites.

This seamless tannin integration gives the wines immediate aesthetic appeal in their youth, while preserving the structural tension for extended cellar aging.

Domaine Boigey-Frères crafts Pinot Noir for the modern collector: authentic, vibrant, and deeply rooted in the soil.
